Becoming School Freeย

Start grounded, not guessing

ย

You don't have to be homeschooling to join this. You don't even have to be sure yet.

But maybe you want to homeschool.
Or you think you might.

But you have no idea where to start, how to actually go about it, or if you're even capable of pulling this off.

You lie awake asking yourself questions like: Can I actually do this?
Will I screw up my kid?
Will they get enough?
Am I qualified enough, patient enough, organised enough to be the one responsible for their whole education?
What if I get it wrong and there's no undoing it?

That's the part no one prepares you for. Leaving school, or even just considering leaving it, isn't just a logistical decision. It's a full body, full life reorientation. And most of the fear you're carrying right now isn't actually about your child. It's about how unfamiliar this path feels compared to the one you grew up on, and how much trust it asks of you to do something differently.

We know this because we've lived it.

We became school free without support. We did it the hard way. We navigated the doubt, the social pressure, the fear about our children's futures, the constant internal questioning of whether we were doing "enough," and the very real challenge of building income and stability outside of the structures we had been taught to rely on.

It took us years to truly orient a school free life that feels safe in our nervous system, where our income supports our lifestyle, where learning unfolds naturally, and where trust in our children is not something we have to force or perform, but something that is fully embodied.

We went through all of this despite having had 30+ years combined experience in the education system. Wild, huh?

That is exactly why this course exists. Not just for people already homeschooling, but for parents standing at the edge of the decision, wanting real, grounded information about what this actually looks like before they leap.

What becoming school free actually asks of you

School shapes a lot in us, not just what we know, but how we relate to authority, time, learning, safety, and even how we measure whether things are "going well." That's not a criticism of school. It's just what happens when you spend that many formative years inside any single structure.

When you start considering a different path for your family, all of those existing patterns come along with you into the decision. They don't disappear just because you've decided to try something new.

That's why so many parents get stuck circling the decision for months, or years, anxious, second guessing, waiting for a sign that never comes.

Becoming School Free isn't about replacing school with a better curriculum, or about deciding school is wrong. It's about understanding your own patterns well enough that you can make this decision, and live it out, from a grounded place instead of a fearful one, whether you're three years into homeschooling or you haven't made the decision yet.

This course is designed to support that.

What this course is

Becoming School Free is a four week process for parents who want to move beyond "should I do this?" and into a genuinely grounded, real understanding of what a school free life actually looks like.

This is not a how to guide for replicating education at home. It is a nervous system aware, reality based process of building trust, authority, rhythm, and safety around a different way of learning.

We move slowly enough for your system to integrate, but clearly enough that you don't stay stuck in limbo, whether that limbo is "I've left school but feel lost" or "I don't even know if I'm allowed to do this."

What we cover over the four weeks

WEEK 1: Settling Your Nervous System and understanding school trauma

We start in the body, because that's where most of the fear actually lives. You'll learn to recognise the specific patterns showing up for you, urgency, comparison, the fear of falling behind, the reflex to look for someone else's approval the moment doubt shows up. Each session pairs education with a somatic process, so you're not just intellectually understanding these patterns, you're actually feeling them move and settle in real time. By the end of the week you'll have language and tools for the anxiety spikes that hit when you're outside a structure you've always known.

WEEK 2: Finding Your Own Authority

This week gets practical about where you're still looking outward for permission or reassurance. We work through the specific places you default to an expert, a benchmark, a timeline, instead of your own read on your child and your family. You'll map where this shows up for you personally, whether it's curriculum guilt, comparing to school year levels, or needing outside validation before you'll trust your own call. The goal is standing in your own authority as a parent without collapsing into doubt the moment someone questions your choice.

WEEK 3: How Humans Actually Learn/ Creating Your School Free Rhythm

We look honestly at what the research actually says about how learning happens, through curiosity, repetition, play, interest, rest, and integration, and how that compares to a timetabled structure. You'll start building a rhythm for your days that doesn't rely on a schedule to feel legitimate. This is where trust in your children stops being theoretical and starts becoming something you can actually see and feel working.

WEEK 4: Anchoring a School Free Life in Reality

This final week addresses the fear, control, perfectionism, and guilt that can surface once you stop managing outcomes and start relating to your child as a whole human rather than a project to get right. We anchor everything from the previous three weeks into a way of operating you can actually sustain, whether you're starting this week or you've been at it for years.

Why this matters now

More families than ever are questioning school, but very few are supported to leave it well, and even fewer are supported through the decision itself.

Without this kind of support, fear often takes the reins. The decision becomes tense. Parents become hyper vigilant, either frozen in indecision or anxious once they've made the leap. Children feel the pressure even when no one is saying it out loud. Eventually, many families return to school, or never leave in the first place, not because it was wrong for them, but because the internal load became too heavy to carry alone.

This work matters because becoming school free is not about being brave or rebellious. It's about creating a life that your nervous system can actually inhabit.

One where learning feels natural. Where income supports your family rather than pulling you away from it. Where trust is embodied, not forced. Where freedom doesn't feel like free-fall.

This course is for you if:

You want to homeschool, or think you might, but have no idea where to start.

You lie awake asking yourself if you can actually do this, if you'll screw up your kid, if they'll get enough.

You're drawn to a different path, but you're still carrying fear about "getting it wrong."

You've left school but feel unsettled, anxious, or unsure of yourself.

You want to trust your children's learning without constantly monitoring it.

You don't want to replicate school at home under a different name.

You want a school free life that feels safe, sustainable, and authentic, whether you're just starting to consider it or you're already living it.

This course is not about doing more. It's about giving yourself the grounding you didn't have when you started.

A different way forward

You don't need to be more organised. You don't need a better plan. You don't need to control learning harder. You don't even need to have made the decision yet.

You need support to navigate this at the level it actually asks of you.

Becoming School Free is an invitation to stop holding your breath and start living this life from a place of trust, capacity, and grounded clarity.

If you've been waiting for permission to do this differently, this is it.

Who We Are

We're Amy and Jeff, and between us we have over thirty years of experience inside the education system and now many years living well outside of it.

We were both schooled through the full conventional pathway, from early childhood through primary and secondary school and into tertiary education. Jeff is a qualified school teacher and university lecturer in graphic design. Amy is a qualified social/youth worker, trained classical painter and printmaker, and spent over a decade working as an arts educator in schools, including in remote Indigenous communities and education based support roles.

We know the system from the inside. We also know what it takes to build something different alongside it.

We are currently unschooling our three children on the east coast of Australia while running our own seven figure business, which we built from scratch after deciding that a school free life was right for our family. That decision reshaped everything, how we work, how we earn, how we structure our days, and how we relate to learning, time, and trust.

This course comes from lived experience, not theory. We've navigated the fear, the doubt, the identity shift, and the practical realities of stepping outside institutional education while building a life that actually holds. We bring perspective from both sides, and we're deeply committed to supporting families to make this transition in a way that is grounded, sustainable, and embodied.

We're not here to convince you to do anything. We're here to support you to do this well.
